Noasis/Dylan Ward - Social - Hull - 18/10/2024

Published on 23 October 2024 at 08:58

It has been six months since my last visit to the fantastic venue of Social in Hull and once again, I am seeing the mighty Noasis, who continue to bring all the swagger and attitude you would hope to expect from a Tribute band paying homage to arguably the biggest British Rock band in the last 30 years.

However, nestled between that last gig and tonight's, there has been the small matter of "the" announcement of the band Noasis so brilliantly portray, confirming that they will be back together performing for the first time since 2009.

A monumental announcement from Oasis for sure, and on this night, Noasis night set up a perfect reminder of what superb music Oasis have produced and what  a special occasion next year will be. It did also give Noasis an opportunity to once again demonstrate how good they are in their own right – and for a tiny fraction on the price of the real thing.

Tonight, there was no dynamic pricing, no Ticketmaster glitches and endless queuing.....  but just like Oasis, they also have no issues with selling out venues, with them once again playing a sold-out Friday and Saturday night East Yorkshire.

Having reviewed Noasis on my first time of seeing them, Noasis Apr 24, there is really nothing new that I can say….. perhaps more simply a reinforcement of what I documented last time. They were purely excellent once again. From start to finish. They perfectly not only capture the sound of Oasis, but the essence of what the music created by the Gallagher brothers is all about.

Noasis are not just any tribute act, they really are that good and are fully justified by the sheer amount of shows they do and the fact so many of them sell out.... and I am certain like me, there will be regulars who recognise their quality and will continue to watch Noasis whenever they play.

The announcement of Oasis playing new dates will have generated new hype for a fresh wave of Oasis fans and will have undoubtedly rekindled the 90's/00's for those who lived it first time round.... and these kind of nights gives us all an opportunity to see epic music performed by a multi-talented band.

Prior to Noasis playing, they had a local support act, giving those the opportunity to play a sold out show, and tonight it was the hugely talented artist called Dylan Ward who supported on the Friday night. The Saturday night gig goers were also hugely fortunate to have Nick Tudor supporting, who also hails from East Yorkshire.

Having not been able to make the Saturday this time, I gave them both a listen in the run up to the shows, and if you are not familiar, please check them both out and I hugely recommend you do so. (links at end of review)

Nick Tudor has a vast back catalogue and new solo tunes and has an accomplished history of playing with some huge bands in the past. He is also playing gigs locally and further afield, so please support him, give him a follow and enjoy the tunes he is creating.

Where I was unfortunate to not see Nick, on the other hand I was lucky enough to see Dylan Ward and by the time he came on, the venue was already packed. Dylan hails from Hull and like Nick Tudor, both have a strong local following and have both recently played sets at the superb Humber Street Sesh.

Dylan's opener of the night could not have been more fitting.... a cover of Bitter Sweet Symphony... originally performed by the majestic Richard Ashcroft/The Verve and who is now confirmed to be a support act for the Oasis gigs next year.

It was destined to be a crowd pleaser and provided an instant opportunity for everyone to join in with Dylan. And that was needed as an early microphone glitch mid song paved the way for the crowd to take over lead singing duties in the forced absence of Dylan not being able to….. and bellow the lyrics out... in what really could have been a perfectly staged coincidence! But that didn't put him off in anyway. He effortlessly and beautifully played out covers from the Smiths, the Cranberries, Cher (yes Cher) and one of Noel's most beautiful songs, Dead in the Water, to which were all hugely well received and carefully wrapped around his own music to perfectly set up the night for the headliners.

And as a headliners, Noasis crash and musically barge their way through the back catalogue of the wonderful Mancunian band, (of which I would imagine is not that far off what Oasis's setlist will look like next year) and effortlessly entertain those lucky enough to be there on the night.

For those who were unlucky to not be able to get tickets for the Oasis gigs next year, do not worry..... I urge you to go and see Noasis wherever you can and watch a fantastic band create a night to remember.... you will not be disappointed.
