I am not one of those people who are sceptical of seeing a tribute act and I know many can get hung up on the band not sounding exactly the same as the original, don’t look the same or just aren’t as good. For me however, that is pretty obvious that may not be the case…… but on this occasion, Noasis were by far one of the best tribute acts I have seen, performing a show befitting of the mighty Mancunian brothers. They excellently power though anthem after anthem and give me and those in attendance a night to remember.

Having been to fair number of gigs in my hometown of Hull, it takes some effort to sell out any venue once, but Noasis achieved that feat by doing so twice, both Friday and Saturday night at the superb venue of Social on Humber Street.
Social is a relatively newcomer to the area, flowering up from the not-too-distant past of the closure of Fruit (the former place for live music) but what Fruit perhaps lacked, Social makes up for and more.
Located conveniently in the middle of one of the newer and wider funded developments in Hull, Social provides an aesthetically attractive welcome, blending in perfectly to its neighbours and upon entering, opens up into a modern, well thought out space. A large bar flanks the whole right side of the venue, allowing for a speedy beer at any point during the night with friendly and knowledgeable staff.
The stage was cleverly tucked around the back of the venue…. and by keeping the bar far enough away from the stage and viewing area, it avoided the general bar noise to not interrupt or deflect away from the performing band or viewing crowd.

And it was indeed an early crowd who came along tonight (Friday). A big presence were in attendance to watch the bonus support act that I was not expecting. And even more of a bonus in that it was Pablo Carrizo who, having seen once before last year, was someone I was more than pleased to see again.
Pablo appears to be growing his well-deserved presence in and around the Hull Music scene, popping up supporting many local acts and justifying slots on festivals in the City. And credit must be given to him. A performance on this occasion was oozing with character, charm and cheekiness that had the audience in full engagement. Rifling through covers and original songs and building the atmosphere just perfectly. A bucket hat worn throughout… it couldn’t be a more fitting occasion to have done so and in fairness, it was a shame for his set to only be as long as it was.
However, it was the main act who we had all come to see. Noasis, founded in 2006, have been emulating the Gallagher brothers et al prolifically and have definitely mastered their craft in doing so.
Before anything else, I have to point out that all of the band were superb musicians and I feel this can be forgotten sometimes when watching tribute acts. They were effortless and they all appeared to be enjoying themselves, of which will have undoubtedly been fed from those in attendance, raucously blasting out every word of every song right back at them.
The stage set up was perfect and although a small space available, the sound and energy coming from the band was massive. “Liam” was a powerful presence…..prowling and swaggering his way through the set. He had the “Liam stance” mastered with his tambourine in hand throughout. All well placed nods to Liam along with the hairstyle too.
They were however not gimmicky in anyway. They are emulating the band and these are big parts of Oasis and what makes them who they are…. and they did that just brilliantly.
They tore through all the songs you would expect to hear….. the greatest hits of a bands history that now spans back a mad 30 years and finished with a huge rendition of Champagne Supernova and Cigarettes and Alcohol to complete off the evening.
The vocals, the musicianship and performance was immaculate. They clearly care and love what they are doing and that was so evident in generating a superb atmosphere throughout the evening.
I wish I had tickets (and time) to go to the next night and see it all again, but I am certain they gave just as good as performance for the other few hundred or so who piled into Social.
One of the biggest compliments that I feel can be given to Noasis, comes in the form of a bloke who I got chatting to at the bar…. He said….. “I don’t miss Liam or Noel being on that stage. They are not needed. THIS is Oasis and these are fucking brilliant”.
I would not argue with him and neither would most who went to the gig. Fair play to them and long may they continue doing what they do. I for one will be keeping an eye out on further gigs.
