Track Release - Skylights - Time to Let Things Go - 09/02/2024

I have previously used this space to write reviews of gigs that I have been to…. although having followed this band for a fair while and built upon numerous weeks of anticipation and ultimately listening to their new track on repeat this morning …. “Time to Let Things Go” by the Skylights has dropped…. and I am inspired to share my views on what is a truly brilliant track.

Openly described by the band as “Our best song to date”, amidst huge anticipation, the new song has been released and who are we to argue with a statement such as that.

And upon the first several listens, it is a song true to the band…… a sound they have captured and ran with and is a perfect recipe of emotion, sentiment and power. A commanding tune, opening with acoustic guitar, with vocals exquisitely delivered, it provides a build, an anticipation… tingling and pulsating towards the powerful yet underlying sense of emotion in the chorus. It continues to rise, hooking you in and levels increase ever so slightly, step on step, like a stairway leading to the masterful ending.

The song is supported on the socials with a video – including footage of them performing live. Which when coupled together, for those who have been so lucky enough to see them, brings all the memories and emotions to the forefront and there is no shame if tears build up during the experience. A band who clearly absolutely love what they do, are masterful live and give us a release of a quality song like this. Fair play to them. Their passion is definitely our gain.

They certainly know how to produce a tune and this is one that gained so much traction leading to today’s release date. Radio X and BBC Introducing have played their tune and coupled with a monumental amount of social media support from one of the most loyal fan bases around, everyone hopes that this song is a huge one for the band.

That said, the band are massively humble, genuine and hugely supportive of the support they receive. Enormous amounts of interaction on the socials is super refreshing and make it about the music……..because after all…. it is about the music and also the community that has built around this band and the love that is shared both ways.

As for live gigs, they are dropping more and more dates all the time which are quick to be snapped up by the loyal fans. I strongly advise anyone to see them live and obviously listen to their back catalogue as you will not be disappointed.

You can buy their new track at lnk.to/TTLTG24 and please check out their social for upcoming gigs and announcements.
